Training your social abilities

YOU MUST ONLY COMPLETE THIS STUDY IF YOU ARE WILLING TO RETURN TO TESTABLE THE FOLLOWING DAY AND COMPLETE ANOTHER STUDY SESSION. You will receive a total of $28 for completing both sessions – you will be paid at a rate of ~$10/h for this 75min session (meaning you earn $12 for this session) but a higher rate of ~$16/h for the final 1hr session (meaning you earn $16 for that session).

The purpose of this study is to see whether training and feedback can improve your ability to understand other people – to judge their personality traits, thoughts and feelings. You will watch short videos of real people interacting and attempt to estimate their personality traits. You will then receive immediate feedback as to how accurately your answer matched how they actually scored on that particular personality trait. You will learn a bit more about the personality traits themselves, which will help you assess the personalities of the people you see.

In the final session you will complete the following day, we will see whether your ability to make these judgments has improved – you will watch new videos of people interacting, but will not receive feedback on your responses.

You may take breaks at any time. You must complete the study on a computer (not a phone or tablet) with good internet connection.

You are eligible to participate if you are fluent in English and have normal or corrected-to-normal vision and hearing.
